Step 0 · Hangul Starter

Never seen Korean before?
You start right here.

Korean is not written with pictures — it is an alphabet, invented in 1443 by King Sejong the Great specifically so that anyone could learn it quickly. 14 consonants + 10 vowels. That is the whole system. Most of our students read their first Korean word within the first 60-minute lesson.

The Syllable Lab — build a Korean letter yourself

Korean letters are not written in a line. A consonant and a vowel are stacked into one square block. Tap the buttons and watch the block build itself.

++ =
HAN

Start (consonant) → middle (vowel) → optional end (consonant). Always in that order, always inside one square.

1 · Starting consonant

2 · Vowel

3 · Ending consonant (optional)

That is the entire logic of Hangul. Once it clicks — usually in Week 1 — you can sound out any Korean word on a menu, a sign, or a K-drama subtitle.

FAQ

Before you enroll

I know absolutely no Korean. Can I still join?

Yes — Step 0 (Hangul Starter) exists for exactly that. No prior knowledge is required. After 4 weeks you move straight into Level 1A with the SNU textbook.

Is Hangul difficult to learn?

It was deliberately designed to be easy. There are only 24 basic letters and the shapes follow logical rules. Most students read their first Korean words in lesson 1 and can sound out full sentences within 3–4 weeks.

I can already read Hangul. Do I have to start from Step 0?

No. Take the free 30-second level test and we will place you at 1A or above.

Which textbook do you use?

The official Seoul National University Korean series (1A–6B), used by university Korean programmes worldwide.

Can I switch between online and offline classes?

Yes. Our HyFlex system lets you attend the same class in person in Johor Bahru or online, and switch as your schedule changes.

Does this course count towards a student visa?

Yes. Korean courses under our Student Visa Programme run from 6 months to 2 years. See the Student Visa Korean Course.
